Diving Costa Rica

Diving in Costa Rica is world-class, the abundance of sealife as well as the impressive beauty of the surroundings make for some incredible dives. We're talking about Bull Sharks...up to 12 feet long, Manta Rays (sometimes seen in groups up to 50!), cow-nosed rays (seen in schools of thousands!), eagle rays, and rainbow runners, spade fish, wahoo, pompano and other schooling fish. You can also see white-tip sharks, turtles, starfish, octopi, horsefish and stingrays. Then there are humpback whales, pilot whales, Orcas and false killer whales and spinner dolphins to be seen on occasion.

All these incredible possibilities combined with the beauty and unparalleled scenery of Costa Rica, make a diving trip here a trip to remember.

Make your reservations at A service provided by our sponsors the convenient and inexpensive Costa Rica travel solution.

Los Almendros de Ocotal Tranquil, tropical, beach front, family friendly, villas located on Playa Ocotal in Costa Rica.  Only 25 minutes from the Liberia Airport to Paradise!

FYI: General Diving Information and Dive Sites

Temperature averages around 82F, and a shorty will do, but can go down to 70 January through April, so a 2MM might be in order.

DIVE SITES include
Los Meros (The Groupers). Huge schools of grunts. There are eels and octopi. The maximum depth is 40 feet.

Bajo Tiburone As the name suggests you can find sharks here, white tips. There are crevices with squirrel fish and white-tips. The are is composed of 3 basic rock formations with sand channels in between.

Bat Islands is a long distance site. It takes 2 hours to get there from your beach hotel. You can find 9 to 15ft Bull Sharks. There are incredible amounts of snapper, gafftop-sail pompanos, jacks, etc. Giant Manta Rays have been sighted here. This is a non-anchored dive and the best site in the area.

There are many more fascinating dive sites.

Visibility is usually 20-80 percent with average of 40-50ft. Plankton affects this a lot. This also attracts the whale sharks, though.
